Australian Quilt Shops
Share
One of the most common questions I get asked is where I buy my fabric.
The answer is all over the place! As a scrappy quilter, a fat quarter may be too much and often I prefer fat 16ths or fat 8ths. This way I can get a large assortment of fabrics without buying a ton of fabric.
This blog post lists online stores that I have purchased from and that offer a great selection of fabrics that are reflective of what I use in my quilts. Bear in mind, I live in Australia so these are all Australian fabric stores.
Amitie Textiles
Jen Kingwell’s shop, Amitie Textiles, located in Torquay in Victoria have curated colour packs of fat 16ths as well kits for particular Jen Kingwell patterns. I have made many of Jen’s quilt patterns and I love her aesthetic - often referred to as ‘modern retro’. In their packs, you get a great assortment of fabrics including those that may be less commonly stocked in other quilt shops. Link to shop here.
Amitie Textiles also offer fabric clubs (Stash and Liberty) where you get a metre (made up of fat 16ths) of fabric in the post every second month. That’s 16 different fabrics! Fabric Clubs are a great way to build variety in your stash without buying large cuts where you may only use a corner of it!
Fortune and Fairies
Fortune and Fairies is located in Richmond, on the outskirts of Sydney. They stock some harder to find fabrics like Alexander Henry, Sevenberry, Yuwa, Nippon Fabrics, Textile Pantry and Kokka. You can follow them on their Instagram account.
Hill Stitches
Hill Stitches in an online store located in Melbourne. What I like most about Emma’s shop are the curated fabric colour bundles that come in fat 16ths or fat 8ths. Check them out here.
L’uccello
L’uccello, is now a mainly online store based in Melbourne. They stock Liberty of London fabric, contemporary and vintage inspired fabric as well as a range of haberdashery. The owner also designs her own vintage inspired fabric collections. Visit their beautiful website here.
Material Obsession
Material Obsession is located in Sydney. When I first started quilting, I spent hours poring over the Material Obsession books, especially Material Obsession Book 2. They are full of fabulous quilt photography and interesting quilts. The Material Obsession brick and mortar store is very inspiring and Kathy Doughty, the owner has curated a beautiful and bold selection of fabrics. They also stock curated colour packs for the scrappy quilter. Check out the online store here.
Nuno Nuno
Nuno Nuno is located in Melbourne. Trudi, the owner, has a lovely selection of quilting fabric along with lots of fun stuff for lovers of textiles and handcrafts. The shop caters for those who love to quilt, embroider, sew their own clothes and especially for those who love traditional Japanese stitching like Boro, Kogin and Sashiko.
As of May 2025, Nuno Nuno has shut its brick and mortar store. Trudi will be continuing online. Check Nuno Nuno out here.

Lorraine’s Patchwork Plus
Patchwork Plus (located in Blackheath in the Blue Mountains) is one of my favourite quilt shops to visit. It is such a pretty shop with a lovely selection of fabrics. Unfortunately, Lorraine does not have an online store but if you are in the Blue Mountains area, I highly recommend a visit.
The Next Stitch
The Next Stitch was founded by Wendy Wild. The store exists as an online store only, stocking a large selection of Ruby Star, Liberty fabrics, notions, patterns and kits. Wendy is frequently on Instagram at @thenextstitch and her shop can be found here.
I hope this is a useful resource for you. This is certainly not a definitive list of online quilt stores in Australia, there are many others out there!
