1. What is foundation paper piecing?
Foundation paper piecing (FPP) is a quilting technique where fabric is sewn directly onto a printed paper template. This allows you to achieve very precise seams and shapes that are difficult to piece with traditional methods.
2. Do I need to be an expert to use these patterns?
Not at all. My patterns are designed for advanced beginners and up. If you know the basics of foundation paper piecing, youβll find them straightforward. Each pattern avoids tricky y-seams and has simplified sections wherever possible.
3. What can I make with these blocks?
These blocks are versatile and can be used in quilts, table runners, tote bags, pouches, mug rugs, pincushions, and many other small projects. Theyβre a great way to add a unique touch to your sewing.
4. What sizes are included?
Each pattern comes with multiple block sizes, giving you flexibility depending on your project. Youβll also find a one-inch test square on the template to make sure your printer settings are accurate.
5. Do the templates include seam allowance?
Yes, every template includes a quarter-inch seam allowance, ready for you to sew without extra adjustments.
6. How do I print the pattern?
Youβll receive a digital PDF file that can be printed on your home printer. Be sure to print at β100%β or βactual sizeβ and use the one-inch test square to check for accuracy.
7. Can I use scraps for these blocks?
Absolutely. These designs are very scrap and stash friendly, making them perfect for using up fabric leftovers in creative ways.
8. Are instructions included?
General tips on foundation paper piecing and order of assembling the sections are included but the maker is assumed to know how to foundation paper piece. Fabric requirements and cutting instructions are not included.
9. Can I sell items I make with this pattern?
Yes, you may sell handmade items created with my patterns in small quantities, but please credit the pattern design to Thimbles and Needles. The PDF files themselves may not be shared or resold.
10. Do I get a physical pattern in the mail?
No. These are digital PDF downloads only, so you can start sewing right after purchase.
