As Day Follows Night - a finished quilt
Share
I was inspired while looking at vintage quilts made in two colours, often a solid and a white. I am not drawn to working with only two fabrics and most of my stash is made up of fabrics smaller than a fat quarter. So for this quilt, I picked a colour (blue) and paired it with a blue pin dot on white.
I generally sort my stash into colour groups with larger pieces for backings and bindings separated out. Sorting into colour groups makes it easier to build a palette for your quilt.
These days I try to use my stash where I can, and treat myself to a few small cuts of new fabrics to add to the mix. I purchased some blues from Tilda’s Creating Memories Summer collection. I really liked the muted blue palette and the textured wovens.
However, after I made some blocks, I found the look to be a bit too subdued for me. I think if you want a quiet soft quilt, then you might like this, however I immediately went back to my stash and added some much darker fabrics.
I also picked out some blues that contained a few extra colours and some novelty fabrics to add to the visual interest in the quilt. I was much happier as I progressively added new blocks.
I don’t have a design wall and use the spare bed to lay out my quilt blocks.
Here it is, all quilted up with a striped binding! To save time, I have been sending my quilts to a longarmer this year. I chose a ‘Waves’ pantograph.
